This project was fun but formidable due to the necessary restrictions on the final product. The entire float needs to fit under a tarp 5 feet off the deck, necessitating the disassembly of the Louie character for storage in the lightening bolt and on the deck.
The construction itself needs to be extremely sturdy as the float will travel up to 30,000 km per year over some rough roads to towns throughout the province. Durability needs to be considered in every aspect of the design or the product will quickly deteriorate.
In considering the design it was important that it was very bright and colourful to appeal to young children. Various safety messages needed to be incorporated into the design in a cohesive way. The floats are used for many years after they are completed.
